It’s officially back-to-school season!

While this year may not be back to “normal”, there’s always comfort in food…

One of my favorite things to talk about is menu planning. This month, many bakeries are offering school-themed treats that are not only fun for students and teachers, but—more importantly—perfect for school catering gigs.

Some flavors and toppings I’ve noticed:

• Homemade Pop Tarts
• PB&J
• Apple Pie
• Hostess Cakes
• Oreo
• Rice Krispies
• Dunkaroos
• Any nostalgic cereal flavor
• Waffles
• Gummy Bears
• Bubblegum
• Pop Rocks
• Root Beer Float
• Desserts shaped like apples, pencils, rulers, books, etc.
• Local school colors or mascot designs

Who’s doing back-to-school well?

From independent shops like La Casita Bakeshop to national brands like Baked By Melissa, you can celebrate the season with limited flavors, special collaborations, and DIY decorating kits.
