Let’s begin our review of Earnest Donuts with a WOW. We drove about 40 minutes to Lewisville, a northwest suburb of Dallas, and were not disappointed. Earnest Donut’s Instagram page first clued us into their donut skills: gourmet flavors, custom letters, and artistic designs. We called ahead to order our own “Donut Digest” letters and a couple of extra treats. An earnest entreaty based on our experience: run, don’t walk, to this mythical donut spot.

THE REVIEW
Earnest Donuts is located in the northern part of the metroplex, about 40 minutes from Fort Worth and 30 minutes from downtown Dallas. The area itself is full of strip malls, so don’t expect any Texas attractions or scenery. Technically closer to The Colony, the shop is situated about 15 minutes from the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater and 30 minutes from Lewisville Lake Park. No sightseeing on our list, as we were here strictly for business and ready to pick up our custom order.
We didn’t expect Earnest Donuts to be as busy since it was Labor Day Weekend, but there was a steady line our entire visit. Luckily, the line moved pretty quickly, and at 11 am, there was still a decent display of donuts left for those who didn’t order in advance:

PROS:
Don’t be fooled by Earnest Donut’s unassuming strip mall exterior. The super clean store is outfitted with plenty of industrial touches, like the Edison-style lightbulbs, wooden panels, and a retro Earnest Donuts sign. Earnest Donuts merchandise is on display too, including mugs, hats, t-shirts, and gift cards. There’s even a chalkboard and mini chairs to occupy the kiddies:
But let’s be honest, we really just came for the donuts. Check out our custom order of a dozen letters (D-O-N-U-T D-I-G-E-S-T plus a smiley emoji):
We also snagged a raspberry cheesecake donut, red velvet cake donut, and a nutella croissant donut…although we prefer to call ’em “cronuts” because it’s just more fun:
These treats not only look great, but taste amazing and fresh! This is made-from-scratch dough and Earnest Donuts claims to cook their donuts in “0 grams trans fat vegetable oil. Every ingredient we use is the freshest, finests and most flavorful we can get.”
CONS:
Hard to find anything negative about these donuts or the service. Our only complaint, per se, would be the driving distance and the fact that we missed out on so many goodies our first go-round.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Earnest Donuts is a clear winner in our eyes and stomachs. With unique flavors, including gluten-free, artistic designs and cronut holes, you really can’t go wrong. We were told the earl grey tea (yeast or cake) is the best – the manager’s own recipe – but the maple bacon is the most popular.
We also have our eyes on the coffee glazed, salted caramel, and these sushi donuts:
Remember to order 24 hours in advance for said sushi donuts, and 48 hours ahead of time for a custom order like letters, giant ring donuts or a special design. This is one time you won’t regret paying in advance.
